TO  IMPRESS SOMEONE???…TO GIVE THEM AN EXPENSIVE GIFT???…TO GET THERE BEFORE THE OTHER JUST SO THEY CAN “HAVE???”… AND SOMEONE ELSE CAN WAIT OR DO WITHOUT???…

I HAVE TO BE HONEST…THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT FOR ME…I HAVE A TOTAL OF SEVEN GIFT’S UNDER MY TREE, IN WHICH I AM GRATEFUL FOR & WRAPPED TONIGHT…

FOUR ARE FOR, MY SON, WHEN HE WILL OPEN THEM ON CHRISTMAS EVE WITH ME…AND THE OTHER THREE ARE FOR: MY MOTHER, CAROL,… MY BROTHER, CHRIS…AND FOR MY BROTHER, PAUL…THAT IS IT.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN UNDERNEATH MY CHRISTMAS TREE WITH SOO LITTLE GIFT’S…BUT YET BEHIND THEM ALL SOOOOO MUCH LOVE…I DID NOT HAVE TO GO CRAZZZY OUT OF MY MIND FOR THEM, NOR DID I GET UPSET IN ANYWAY TO FEEL PRESSURED IF THEY WOULD LIKE THEM OR NOT…OR DID I SPEND ENOUGH???…

IT TRULY IS THE “THOUGHT” THAT COUNTS…THE GIFT ALONE WAS KNOWING THEY ARE STILL HERE IN MY LIFE & I SHARE MY LOVE WITH THEM IN THIS WAY & GRATEFUL THAT I CAN…”GIVING” WHAT I CAN…CAUSE I AM HERE…AND SO ARE THEY…

Lord, so often times, as any other day
When we sit down to our meal and pray…

We hurry along and make fast the blessing

³⁸ Jesus left the synagogue and went to Simon’s home. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, and they spoke to Jesus about her.³⁹He went and stood at her bedside and ordered the fever to leave her. The fever left her, and she got up at once and began to wait on them.⁴⁰ After sunset all who had friends who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus; he placed his hands on every one of them and healed them all.⁴¹Demons also went out from many people, screaming,          You are the Son of God!

Jesus gave the demons an order and would not let them speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.

[3] He goes in to the Judean Desert or wilderness to face the devil’s temptation…Read: (Mt 4:1; Mk 1:12; Lk 4:1)…

[4] At the River Jordan near Bethany-across-the-Jordan, or Bethabara (Jn 1:28), and according to John’s Gospel, Jesus calls his first five disciples (Jn 1:35)… These include Philip… Andrew… and Simon Peter all from Bethsaida in Galilee (Jn 1:44)…

In Capernaum he heals the madman in the synagogue (Mk 1:23; Lk 4:33) and Peter’s mother-in-law of her fever (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:29; Lk 4:38)…

[2] Jesus travels throughout Galilee, preaching and healing… (Mt 4:23; Mk 1:39), ***including the leper (Mt 8:2; Mk 1:40; Lk 5:12)….

[3] Returning to Capernaum (Mk 2:1) a paralysed man is healed (Mt 9:2; Mk 2:3; Lk 5:18) and Jesus calls Matthew (or Levi) the tax-collector to be a disciple (Mt 9:9; Mk 2:14; Lk 5:27)…

[4] Jesus travels from Galilee south to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival – possibly the Second Passover identified in the Gospels (Jn 5:1). At the Pool of Bethesda he heals the crippled man (Jn 5:2)…

[5] Returning north to Galilee, Jesus heals the man with the shrivelled hand (Mt 12:9; Mk 3:1; Lk 6:6) and many others (Mt 12:15; Mk 3:7)…

[6] On a hillside in Galilee, probably near Capernaum, he selects his twelve apostles…Read: (Mt 10:1; Mk 3:13; Lk 6:12) and delivers the Sermon on the Mount (Mt 5:1). In Luke’s report Jesus comes down from a hillside to give the Sermon (Lk 6:20)…

[8] Jesus continues preaching and healing in Galilee, and in Nain brings the widow’s son back to life (Lk 7:11)…Oh Jesus!!!…  : )

[9] Accompanied by the twelve apostles and some of his women helpers, Jesus continues his second Galilee tour (Lk 8:1)…

[10] He sails across the Sea of Galilee (Mt 8:18; Mk 4:35; Lk 8:22) and calms a storm (Mt 8:24; Mk 4:37; Lk 8:23). [3] He continues through Galilee… (Mt 13:58; Mk 6:6) and sends out the twelve apostles to preach the Gospel… (Mt 10:5; Mk 6:7; Lk 9:1)…

JESUS SENDING OUT THE "TWELVE"...

[4] The Twelve return to Capernaum from their mission… (Mk 6:30, Luke 9:10)…

[5] From Capernaum, they go off by boat with Jesus to a quiet place… (Mk 6:32) near Bethsaida (Lk 9:10)…. Here he feeds the 5,000 (Mt 14:14; Mk 6:33; Lk 9:11; Jn 6:5)…

JESUS FEEDS FIVE-THOUSAND!!!...

***JESUS PREACHES AND HEALS IN SYRIAN-PHOENICIA, ITUREA and TRACHONITIS, THE DECAPOLIS***

[8] Jesus retires from Galilee to the region of Tyre and Sidon in Syrian-Phoenicia (Mt 15:21; Mk 7:24) where he heals the daughter of the Gentile Syrophoenician woman (Mt 15:22; Mk 7:25)….

[9] He leaves Syrian-Phoenicia via Sidon for Galilee (Mt 15:29) but travels through the Decapolis (Mk 7:31)…

[10] In the Decapolis he heals the deaf and mute man…Read: (Mk 7:32) and feeds the 4,000 (Mt 15:32; Mk 8:1)…

[11] Reaching the Sea of Galilee, he crosses by boat to the Magadan/Dalmanutha region… (Mt 15:39; Mk 8:10)… There the Pharisees and Sadducees ask for a sign from heaven… (Mt 16:1; Mk 8:11)…***A SIGN…

[12] Continuing on to Bethsaida, a blind man is healed… (Mk 8:22)…

[13] Jesus now travels from Galilee, north to Caesarea Philippi in Iturea and Trachonitis, where Peter confesses that Jesus is the Christ…SOOO AWESOME!!!…Read:… (Mt 16:13; Mk 8:27)…

[14] Continuing on from Caesarea Philippi possibly further north towards Mount Hermon, three of the disciples see Jesus Transfigured in the presence of Elijah and Moses… (Mt 17:1; Mk 9:2; Lk 9:28). On his return, Jesus heals the boy with epilepsy… (Mt 17:14; Mk 9:14; Lk 9:37)…

Other traditions place the Transfiguration to the south, on Mount Tabor… The epileptic boy would then have been healed in the Galileearea…

[15] In Galilee (Mt 17:22; Mk 9:30), in Capernaum (Mk 9:33), Jesus pays the Temple Tax with a fish! (Mt 17:24). Then to avoid the dangers in Judea, he remains in Galilee (Jn 7:1)…

Romans 1

¹From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus and an apostle chosen and called by God to preach his Good News.

² The Good News was promised long ago by God through his prophets, as written in the Holy Scriptures.³ It is about his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: as to his humanity, he was born a descendant of David;⁴ as to his divine holiness, he was shown with great power to be the Son of God by being raised from death.⁵ Through him God gave me the privilege of being an apostle for the sake of Christ, in order to lead people of all nations to believe and obey.⁶This also includes you who are in Rome, whom God has called to belong to Jesus Christ.

⁷And so I write to all of you in Rome whom God loves and has called to be his own people:

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

⁸ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because the whole world is hearing about your faith.⁹ God is my witness that what I say is true—the God whom I serve with all my heart by preaching the Good News about his Son. God knows that I remember you¹⁰ every time I pray. I ask that God in his good will may at last make it possible for me to visit you now.¹¹ For I want very much to see you, in order to share a spiritual blessing with you to make you strong.¹²What I mean is that both you and I will be helped at the same time, you by my faith and I by yours.

¹³ You must remember, my friends, that many times I have planned to visit you, but something has always kept me from doing so. I want to win converts among you also, as I have among other Gentiles.¹⁴ For I have an obligation to all peoples, to the civilized and to the savage, to the educated and to the ignorant.¹⁵So then, I am eager to preach the Good News to you also who live in Rome.

The Power of the Gospel

¹⁶ I have complete confidence in the gospel; it is God’s power to save all who believe, first the Jews and also the Gentiles.¹⁷ For the gospel reveals how God puts people right with himself: it is through faith from beginning to end. As the scripture says,          The person who is put right with God through faith shall live.

Human Guilt

¹⁸ God’s anger is revealed from heaven against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known.¹⁹ God punishes them, because what can be known about God is plain to them, for God himself made it plain.²⁰ Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made. So those people have no excuse at all!²¹ They know God, but they do not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness.²² They say they are wise, but they are fools;²³instead of worshiping the immortal God, they worship images made to look like mortals or birds or animals or reptiles.

²⁴ And so God has given those people over to do the filthy things their hearts desire, and they do shameful things with each other.²⁵They exchange the truth about God for a lie; they worship and serve what God has created instead of the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever! Amen.

²⁶ Because they do this, God has given them over to shameful passions. Even the women pervert the natural use of their sex by unnatural acts.²⁷In the same way the men give up natural sexual relations with women and burn with passion for each other. Men do shameful things with each other, and as a result they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for their wrongdoing.

²⁸ Because those people refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, so that they do the things that they should not do.²⁹ They are filled with all kinds of wickedness, evil, greed, and vice; they are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, deceit, and malice. They gossip³⁰ and speak evil of one another; they are hateful to God, insolent, proud, and boastful; they think of more ways to do evil; they disobey their parents;³¹ they have no conscience; they do not keep their promises, and they show no kindness or pity for others.³² They know that God’s law says that people who live in this way deserve death. Yet, not only do they continue to do these very things, but they even approve of others who do them.

***The “Good News”… is a Message about Jesus Christ… Here Paul summarizes the “Good News” about Jesus Christ,… who (1) came as a human by natural descent,… (2) was part of the Jewish royal line through David,…And third (3) died and was raised from the dead,… and fourth… (4) opened the door for God’s Kindness to be Poured Out on US!!!… The book of Romans is an expansion of these themes….

Friends…The “Good News” is a Message that can be passed on!!!… Christians have “Both”… ***Privilege and a ***Great Responsibility”… Paul and the apostles received forgiveness (grace) as an undeserved privilege… They also received the responsibility to ***SHARE*** the message of God’s forgiveness with others… God also Graciously Forgives Our Sins when we believe in him as Lord… In doing this, we are committing ourself to begin a NEW LIFE… Paul’s New Life also involved a God-given responsibility–to witness of God’s “Good News” to the world as a missionary… God may or may not call you to be an overseas missionary, but he does call you (and ALL BELIEVERS) to witness and be an example of the “Changed Life”… that Jesus Christ has begun in YOU!!!…

HOLLY IS THE BUNNIE IN THE NEST... : ) (LOOK TO THE LEFT)

At the beginning of the world the animal gods gathered to fill the land and sea and sky with creatures like themselves. The great, strong creatures were made by great, strong gods. The quiet, gentle creatures were made by gentle, peaceful gods…

  The Whale God launched his huge splashing creations into the deep ocean. The Elephant God trumpeted his likeness among the forests and plains. Fish swam from the Fish God and birds flew from the Bird God…

  The Rabbit God was not a big, strong god. He was a small god, and his creatures were small creatures. He was a quiet, loving god, and his creatures were quiet and full of love…   The Rabbit God took earth and water and patted his creations into shape and breathed life into them.

With each breath, he told them:

I give you swift feet, so that you can run. I give you smallness and stillness, so that you can hide. I give you long ears, sharp enough to hear even the grass grow. I give you keen noses and wide eyes, so that your enemies will not surprise you. I give you warm, soft fur, so that you may nestle safe in your burrows all winter. I give you food from the plants, so you will never go hungry. Last, I give you love for each other, so that even when others hunt you, you will multiply and flourish. These are the gifts I give you…

  The Rabbit God watched his children scamper off, their white tails disappearing into the fields and forests…

  Their work finished, the gods departed. The Whale God returned to the deep blackness of night, the Elephant God to his pillars of clouds. The Fish God swam back to her starry seas, the Bird God flew off singing into the sunlit sky…

  The Rabbit God went home to the moon…

The wheels of the new world began to turn. Rain fell and streams and rivers wandered down to the ocean. Trees flowered. Tender plants pushed out of the rich ground. And the animals scattered to the four corners of the earth, looking for food and homes…

  The rabbits obeyed their god. They dug holes and ate plants and loved one another. Soon, there were many little rabbits…

Holly was the first rabbit child to be born. She lived with her mother and father in a warren in the woods, at the edge of a clearing…

  Holly spent long, silent hours watching the trees wave in the wind and listening to the long grasses stir around her. She smelled the delicious clover, fruit and flowers. If she heard an unfamiliar sound, she darted into her family’s hole and waited until quiet returned…

  When she grew big enough, Holly helped her mother and father dig a larger burrow. She scooped out dirt with her paws, and then scattered it away from the entrance so there would be no clue that rabbits lived there. She pulled up grass with her teeth and carried it down to keep their home sweet-smelling and warm…

  Soon, the work on their new burrow was done. Holly’s parents tugged tufts of fur from beneath their chins and made a soft cushion for her…

  “You are our little rabbit, and we love you,” they whispered. Her parents pressed their noses together and hugged her tight…

  Holly snuggled between her parents, deep in the dark, comfortable silence. She breathed in the gentle rabbit breath all around her. Big rabbit eyes gave heavy blinks as they drifted off to sleep on the fragrant grass.

Holly was startled awake by the roars and howls of huge animals overhead. Her parents comforted her, but they were frightened, too…

  “We have found homes,” said Holly’s father. “But still we are not safe.”

  “When we go out to find food we are in great danger,” said Holly’s mother.

  “Everything chases us, and tries to catch us and eat us,” said Holly’s father.

  “Something must be done,” said Holly’s mother. “Let us speak with the other rabbits about this.”
Holly and her parents crept out of their home and looked carefully around, then thumped their hind legs on the ground to summon the other rabbits…

  “Fellow rabbits,” her parents said, “we cannot live like this. What should we do???”

  The rabbits talked among themselves and decided to ask their god for help…

  As the moon rose above the trees, the rabbits formed a circle and began to dance. They spun faster and faster until the whirling rabbits blended into the moonlight…

  At last, the rabbits fell to the earth, crying: “Oh, Lord Rabbit, hear our prayer. Other animals are strong and fierce, and we are afraid.”

“Give us teeth and claws to defend ourselves from the dogs and foxes, the wolves and weasels. Give us great voices to frighten them away. Make us big and strong or we will perish!!!”

  And the Rabbit God came down among them and answered:

  Though I may seem great among the creatures of the earth, among the gods themselves, I am only a rabbit. I gave you no weapons because I have no weapons to give. I gave you survival in the face of destruction, and with that you must be content…

  The rabbits bowed their heads in sorrow. Although they tried their best to feel thankful, in their hearts they were bitterly disappointed. The rabbits murmured among themselves: “We have too little. We will not live.”

  In the morning, Holly woke up to sunlight, chirping birds and chattering squirrels. Her parents nuzzled her good-bye as they scurried out to forage for breakfast. Holly hopped back and forth, waiting for them to come back. The more she waited, the more she worried. She missed the warmth of their fur next to hers. When she could wait no longer, she poked her head out of the burrow…

  “Mother! Father! Where are you???” Holly called.

There was no answer. She scampered to the cover of dense brush, weaving her way through the brambles. She saw an eagle swooping down from above, but it couldn’t get through the blackberry bush where she hid. Near the meadow, the scent of a wolf cautioned her to wait silently…   Finally it seemed safe. Holly crept out of her hiding place and started across the meadow…   Suddenly, the wolf sprang toward her. Holly ran faster than she’d ever run before, dodging and turning as she felt the wolf’s hot breath behind her. Just as she got back to the safety of the brambles, the wolf snapped at her tail, nipping off a pinch of fur. Holly kept running as fast as her legs could carry her, back to the safety of her home…

  Inside, her parents were wringing their paws with worry when Holly tumbled breathlessly down between them. They hugged her tight and gave her the best of the food they had gathered. But they could not forget the dangers outside…

  “Oh, what shall we do???” Holly’s parents wept, and big tears splashed onto her ears…

  That night Holly lay awake thinking as her parents slept…

  “Something must be done, and I will do it. I will speak to Lord Rabbit and he will hear me. We cannot always be afraid.”

  Holly crept out all alone into the forest clearing, and began to dance in the silver moonlight. No other rabbits were there to watch for danger, and she was so frightened that at first her dancing was not much more than little trembling hops. But as she danced, her timid heart filled with fiery courage. She danced and leaped until the clearing was a blur and she lost all sense of where or what she was. Her feet pattered on the cold dewy grass, making a sound like soft rain. Her ears whirled around her head and the clearing started to spin. Her soul lifted and she felt that she was no longer alone. There, glowing with moonlight, was the Rabbit God…

  She fell down panting, paws outstretched, and murmured, “Oh, Lord Rabbit. Please listen to me. We are so small and the others are so big. I was chased by a wolf when all I wanted to do was find my mother and father. Can you not help us??? We are always afraid. We have no peace.”

And the Rabbit God heard her prayer, and spoke to her:

  Little one, if you were not a rabbit, you would not have survived your ordeal to tell me about it. I made you as you are, in my own image, for I could do nothing else. If I were the Fox God, you would live on flesh. If I were the Eagle God, you would dive through the air. But I am the Rabbit God, and you are a rabbit.

I cannot change you…

But, the Rabbit God went on, you have changed yourself. I did not give you the courage to come into the clearing alone to dance and pray for your people. That change came from within you, and because of your bravery, I am a stronger god. I can now grant you one more blessing…

The Rabbit God paused, and when he spoke again, it was in a larger voice.

                This I say to all of you…

  Holly looked up, and saw that the forest clearing was filled with rabbits. Not only her loved ones and friends, but countless others. All the rabbits in the world stood and listened to their god in silent awwwe…

  Every month when the moon is full, I will be at my greatest strength. I will then stand between you and the fierce ones, and keep you safe in my arms all night long…

  The Rabbit God stopped speaking and faded into the moonlight. All the rabbits lifted their eyes to the big, round moon and thanked their god for the hope of peace…

  Holly’s parents came to her and snuggled their noses against her, and all three together hopped back to their warm hole at the edge of the clearing…

“Holly, you are brave and good,” they said. “Your children and your children’s children will remember you and thank you.”

  And Holly fell asleep with a deep quiet in her heart…

  Holly lived to a ripe old age, surrounded by her children and her children’s children. Every full moon they gathered around her and she told them the story of the dance in the clearing, and the promise of the Rabbit God…

  The rabbits accepted their place as the meek and timid of the earth. They eat green growing things, and are content. They love one another, and flourish… Generation after generation, they tell the story of their great hero, Holly, and remember the promise that the Rabbit God made to all rabbits, forever…   On the night of the full moon, when the Rabbit God is stronger than any of the fierce animals, all the rabbits of the world come out of their hiding places to worship. As they turn their eyes to heaven, nothing startles them, nothing chases them, nothing harms them, and they have no fear. And the Rabbit God looks down on them in benevolence and peace…

“AS I HAVE LOVED YOU” IS SUBTLETY DIFFERENT FROM “AS I LOVE YOU.”  HERE WE SEE THE DIFFERENCE!!!… CAN WE LIVE UP TO THIS COMMAND OF GOD?  IF SO, HOW?

AS THESEFLASHBACKS ARE STRUNG TOGETHER, IT BECOMES OBVIOUS THAT JESUS WENT TO GREAT PAINS TO TELL HIS DISCIPLES WHAT WAS COMING BEFOREHAND.  WHY DO YOU THINK IT STILL TOOK THEM ALL BY SURPRISE?

DO YOU THINK JESUS ACTUALLY FULFILLED HIS PROMISE TO TEAR DOWN THE TEMPLE AND REBUILD IT IN THREE DAYS?…READ: (JOHN 2:19-22).

IN THE LORD’S PRAYER WE ARE ASKED TO FORGIVE AS GOD FORGIVES US, DOES HE REALLY WANT US TO TAKE IT TO THIS EXTENT?  READ: (MATTHEW 18:23-35).  HOW WOULD YOUR LIFE CHANGE IF YOU DID?  (REMEMBER, FORGIVENESS IS NOT SAYING WHO HURT YOU IS OKAY, FORGIVENESS IS NOT LETTING THE SITUATION HOLD YOU BACK ANYMORE..UNFORGIVENESS IS LIKE RUNNING WITH A WEIGHT IN YOUR LIFE, DON’T LET IT STOP YOU FROM DOING WHAT GOD HAS PLANNED FOR YOU.)

AS THE SOLDIERS GAMBLE FOR JESUS’ CLOTHES THE CLOUDS MOVE IN AND IT BECOMES DARK.  THE PRIEST AND SOME OF THE CROWD LEAVE.  THE SOLDIERS ALLOW MARY (JESUS’ MOTHER) MARY AND JOHN TO MOVE IN CLOSE TO JESUS.  MARY EMBRACES HIS FEET AND COMES AWAY WITH A BLOODY FACE.  ANOTHER WORD OF JESUS FROM THE CROSS.  “I THIRST.”  ONE OF THE SOLDIERS HOLDS A SPONGE UP TO HIM, BUT AFTER WETTING HIS MOUTH HE REFUSES MORE.  ANOTHER MARY INSERTION HERE AS SHE SAYS, “MY SON, LET ME DIE WITH YOU.”  JESUS RESPONDS, “WOMEN, BEHOLD YOUR SON.”  AND TO JOHN: “BEHOLD, YOUR MOTHER.”  THEN, JESUS SAYS, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME.”  AND “IT IS ACCOMPLISHED.”  HE LOOKS UP INTO HEAVEN AND SIGHS…”FATHER, INTO YOUR HANDS, I COMMEND MY SPIRIT.”   READ: (MATTHEW 27:45-50; MARK 15:33-37; LUKE23:44-46; JOHN 19:25-30.)

Well, tonight at work… I was thinking about Easter and alot of “Things” we mostly do to celebrate this Wonderful Event!!!…One of the “Things” that crossed my mind was something I have been doing for 40 years and never really knew why…

***Coloring Easter Eggs…and having Easter Egg hunts was just a few of them***…Though my Mind & Heart had alot more going on…

Friends…Whether you enjoy those eggs: hard-boiled…poached…fried…or deviled…Eggs are a kitchen staple and delicious in any form!!!…(I believe)… While breakfast-time has made the egg a culinary celebrity, it’s “Easter” that has transformed the Egg into a cultural icon… Spring-Time brings us eggs colorfully dyed or reincarnated in chocolate, but the “Easter Egg” actually boasts a rich history, dating back thousands of years to Pre-Christian cultures…

Friends,…Remember…The EGG has long since been a symbol for RESURRECTION AND NEW LIFE… from the time of the ancient Persians, through Jewish culture, and well incorporated in the Christianity…THE EGG, a part of the celebrations about the “Vernal Equinox”…Means: The comming of Spring, a time for Planting & New Life… has been a subject of wonder and veneration for just about all cultures… It appears in MANY RELIGIONS as a Critical symbol of NEW LIFE… of RESURRECTION…

On another note…They are almost entirely unrelated to fertility… Women have all but always been considered mere vesssels for something from men. And until Robert Hooke discovered and named the cell using the microscope developed by at least Lippershey, and Janssen in the early 1600s, that was also unclear or rather unseen…

Ova does come from Latin meaning egg, but that is incidental to the role of the egg in religious symbolism…

When one thinks about symbols, you just about have to drop back to prerecorded history, and try to understand the terror of a total eclipse of the sun…

The EGG is the symbol for New Life, and for Resurrection, not fertility… On the other hand, in the middle ages, particularly, in Germany a hare was said to lay eggs, and present them to children… It’s not that far from the Easter Egg… The hare was a symbol of fertility, which makes sense in the light of the ability rabbits to breed without a season…

JESUS BEGINS HIS JOURNEY TO GOLGATHA (THE VIA DOLORSA).

HE ALMOST LOVINGLY EMBRACES THE CROSS AS HE ACCEPTS THE FATHER’S WILL.  IN A SEMI-DELIRIOUS STATE, JESUS FLASHES BACK O THE CROWD’S WELCOMING HIM INTO TOWN WITH PALM BRANCHES.  THE TWO MARY’S ARE REPEATEDLY SHOWN FOLLOWING ALONG WITH THE CROWD.  THE BRUTALITY OF THE ROMAN SOLDIERS CONTINUES AS THEY SHOW NO MERCY TO JESUS ALONG THE WAY.  AS SHE SEES JESUS CRUSHED BENEATH THE WEIGHT OF THE CROSS SHE FLASHES BACK TO HER MOTHERING OF JESUS AS A CHILD, AND RUNS TO HIM AS SHE DID THEN.  THE RESPITE IS BRIEF.  JESUS PUTS HIS BLOODY HANDS ON HER FACE AND SAYS: “SEE, MOTHER, I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.”  AND EMBRACES THE CROSS ONCE AGAIN.  READ: MATTHEW 27:31-32; MARK 15:20-21; LUKE 23:26-32; JOHN 19:17).

           NEXT, READ MATTHEW 10:38 & 16:24.

WHAT MIGHT THOSE WORDS HAVE MEANT TO THE DISCIPLES AT THE TIME JESUS SAID THEM?  

WHAT MIGHT THEY HAVE MEANT AS DISCIPLES OVERLOOKED THIS SCENE?

MAYBE THIS IS AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY, BUT WHAT DO YOU IMAGINE SATAN (I HATE THAT WORD) WAS THINKING DURING THIS “ROAD OF SORROWS”? 

PILATE S SHOWN LOOKING FROM HIS PALACE AS THE CROWD WITH JESUS MAKE THEIR WAY OUT OF THE CITY.  JESUS FALLS YET AGAIN AND IT IS OBVIOUS HE CAN GO NO LONGER…NO FURTHER…SIMON IS FORCED TO CARRY THE CROSS FOR JESUS.  THE CONTRAST IS UNBELIEVEABLE AS THE CLEAN AND STRONG SIMON BEARS ONE SIDE OF THE CROSS AND COMES FACE T FACE WITH THE BLOODY AND DYING JESUS ON THE OTHER.  READ: (MATTHEW 27:32; MARK 15:21; LUKE 23:26; JOHN 19:17).

NO JEW WOULD WILLINGLY TOUCH A CROSS BECAUSE HE REGARDED IT AS ACCURSED.

WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT THE WAY IN WHICH GOD CHOSE TO BE SACRIFICED FOR US?  READ: (GALATIONS 3:13)

MORE BRUTALITY FROM THE SOLDIERS AND THE CROWD, TO THE POINT WHERE SIMON IS SHOWN TO GET FED UP AND CHASE OFF THE CROWD WHO HAVE BROKEN IN TO BEAT JESUS.  SOMEHOW JESUS MANAGES TO GET UP     AND GET BACK TO THE CROSS.  SIMON AND JESUS INTERLOCK ARMS AS THEY CONTINUE ON THEIR WAY.

HOW ARE JUDAS FEELINGS OF REMORSE DIFFERENT FROM TRUE REPENTANCE?

READ: (MARK 15:11, LUKE 23:27.)  DO YOU THINK THIS BLOODTHIRSTY CROWD IS THE SAME ONE THAT WELCOMED JESUS INTO TOWN WITH PALM BRANCHES AND SHOUTS OF “HOSANNA?”…IF SO, HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS SCHIZOPHRENIC SWITCH?

JESUS IS SHOWN UTTERLY NO MERCY.  THE ROMAN SOLDIERS ARE SHOWN AS SADISTICS BRUTES WHO ENJOY THIS WORK.  HE IS FIRST BEATEN WITH RODS AND THEN WITH THE SCOURGE.  EVEN SOME OF THE SANHEDRIN, (HIGH PRIEST) FINALLY LOSE THEIR STOMACH FOR THIS AND TURN THEIR HEADS.  SATAN IS SEEN STALKING THROUGH THE CROWD.  SOMEHOW MARY, (JESUS’ MOTHER) IS ALLOWED IN THE CROWD WATCHING AND EXCHANGES MORE LOOKS WITH HER SON.  AS THE BEATING GOES ON WE SEE SATAN CARRYING A BABY THAT TURNS OUT TO BE OLD LOOKING AND HAIRY/SCARRY.  THE TWO MARY’S COME IN AFTER THE SCOURGIN  G AND LOVINGLY MOP UP THE BLOOD OF JESUS.  THIS SCENE IS HORRIBLY BRUTAL AND BLOODY AND IS PROBABLY NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 12.  READ: MATTHEW 27:26:31, MARK 15:15; LUKE 23:22; JOHN 19:1-5).

MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAID THAT THERE IS NO WAY A MORTAL MAN COULD HAVE ENDURED THIS LEVEL OF TORTURE.  AND YET WE UNDERTAND THAT JESUS SUFFERED AS A MAN TAKING THE PUNISHMENT THAT MAN MUST BEAR BECAUSE OF SIN.

OUR WORD “PASSION” COMES FROM THE LATIN “PASSIO.” WHICH MEANS, “TO SUFFER”…

SUFFERING IS NOT LIMITED TO DEATH, BUT THERE ARE MANY WAYS WE CAN SUFFER OR PASSIO…WHAT ARE WAYS PEOPLE CAN “PASSIO” OR SUFFER IN OUR MODERN WORLD TODAY?

JESUS DID NOTHING TO DESERVE THIS DEATH…IN FACT THERE WERE “FALSE” WITNESSES WHO TESTIFIED AGAINST JESUS TO “SWAY” THE CROWD TO PUNISH JESUS FOR A CRIME HE DID NOT COMMIT.  THE JEWISH LEADERS WERE LOOKING FOR A WAY TO GET RID OF JESUS BECAUSE HE WAS MESSING UP THEIR SYSTEM BY HIS TEACHINGS…  (LOOK AT THE STORY OF NICODEMOUS IF TIME PERMITS.)

WHEN DID THE JEWISH LEADERS DECIDE TO “DESTROY JESUS?…READ: MARK3:6…AND MARK 11:15-18.

WHAT DO THESE VERSES TELL YOU ABOUT JUDAS’S CHARACTER???…

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS PASSAGE OF SCRIPTURE?

THE SOLDIERS CAME TO THE GARDEN TO ARREST JESUS.  JUDAS IS PRESENTED AS RELUCTANT TO DO HIS IDENTIFYING ACT AND IS PUSHED FORWARD TO KISS JESUS.  JESUS FREELY ACKNOWLEDGES TO THE TEMPLE GUARD WHO HE IS.  AS THE GUARDS BEGIN TO SURROUNDJESUS, THE OTHER DISCIPLES START TO FLEE, AND PETER CUTS OFF A GUY’S EAR.  JESUS HEALS THE MAN AND TELLS PETER TO PUT DOWN HIS SWORD.

JESUS ASKS JUDAS IN THIS SCENE “DO YOU BETRAY THE SON OF MAN WITH A KISS?”  LUKE 22:48

HE ALSO CALLS JUDAS “FRIEND” MATTHEW 26:50   WHY DID JESUS ASK THIS QUESTION?

A KISS ON THE CHEEK WAS, AND STILL IS A COMMON NEAR-AND MIDDLE EASTERN WAY FOR TWO MEN TO GREET EACH OTHER.  IN JUDAS’ CASE, HE USED IT AS SORT OF AN INDIRECT WAY TO IDENTIFY JESUS- PERHAPS SO THAT THE OTHER DISCIPLES WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY REALIZE THAT IT WAS HE WHO BETRAYED JESUS.

THE GUARDS WHO CAME TO ARREST JESUS DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE LOOKED LIKE-THERE WERE NOT PHOTOGRAPHS BACK THEN, AND JESUS LOOKED LIKE ANY OTHER GUY.  SO THE KISS WAS A SURE WAY FOR THE GUARDS TO KNOW WHO JESUS WAS.

AFTER THE KISS, AND THE GUARDS SEIZED JESUS, PETER CUTS THE EAR OFF ONE OF THE GUARDS NAMED MALCHUS (JOHN 18:10).  JESUS THEN HEALS MALCHUS AND TELLS PETER TO PUT AWAY HIS SWORD.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WAS THE ULTIMATE RESULT OF THIS EXPERIENCE FOR MALCHUS?

DOES IT SURPRISE YOU THAT IT WAS PETER, JESUS’S RIGHT HAND MAN, TOOK THIS VIOLENT ACTION?  MATTHEW 16:21-22

PETER LATER GOES THROUGH A SERIES OF DENIALS OF JESUS.  JESUS LOOKS RIGHT AT HIM AT THE LAST DENIAL.  PETER THEN REMEMBERS JESUS’S WORDS MATTHEW 26:33-34  “EVEN IF EVERYONE ELSE FALLS TO PIECES ON ACCOUNT OF YOU, I WON’T”  DON’T BE SO SURE,”  JESUS SAID, “THIS VERY NIGHT BEFORE THE ROOSTER CROWS UP THE DAWN, YOU WILL DENY ME THREE TIMES.”

WHY DO YOU THINK PETER COULD BE BRAVE AT FIRST IN THE GARDEN, AND SO COWARDLY NOW THAT THIS TRUMPED UP TRIAL?

WHY DO YOU THINK JESUS TOLD PETER IN ADVANCED THAT HE WAS GOING TO FAIL?

IN JOHN 21:15-17, JESUS GAVE PETER THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVERSE HIS DENIALS.  WHAT DOES THIS REVEAL ABOUT OUR GOD?

Well, I learned that Finding our calling in life can be a source of great anxiety… We put it right up there with knowing God’s Will or Learning Our True Purpose in Life…

I FLUTTERED!!!…Part of the confusion comes about because some people use these terms interchangeably, while others define them in specific ways… Things get muddled even more when we throw in the words: Vocation… Ministry & Career…

Well…We can sort things out if we accept this basic definition of calling: “A Calling is God’s Personal… Individual Invitation to “Carry Out the Unique Task HE has for Us…”

That sounds simple enough. But how do we know when God is calling us, and is there any way we can be sure we’re doing the task he has assigned us???…

                                         WELL…FIRST PART OF OUR CALLING…

Before we can discover God’s calling for us specifically… WE must have a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP  with JESUS CHRIST… Jesus offers salvation to every person, and he wants to have an Intimate Friendship with each of his followers, but God reveals a calling only to those who accept him as their Savior….

THIS MAY PUT MANY PEOPLE OFF, I THOUGHT SO MYSELF…BUT, JESUS HIMSELF SAID IN THE BIBLE IN THE BOOK OF JOHN…

John 14:6 New International Version (NIV)

 ⁶ Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Friends, Throughout our life, God’s calling for us will bring great challenges, often distress and frustration.,,, We can’t succeed at this task on your own… Only through the constant guidance and help of the HOLY SPIRIT will we be able to carry out our God-appointed mission… A Personal Relationship with Jesus guarantees that the Holy Spirit will live within us, giving us Power and Direction…

Friends…Unless we are Born Again, We’ll be guessing at what our calling is… We’ll rely on our own wisdom, and we’ll be wrong…(I Believe)…

                           OUR JOB IS NOT OUR CALLING…STAY WITH ME!!!…

You may be surprised to learn that your job is not your calling, and here’s why.

*** Most of us change jobs during the course of our life… We may even change careers… If you’re in a church-sponsored ministry, even that ministry can end… We will all “Retire” some day… Our job is not our calling,.. no matter how much it may allow you to serve other people…

Our job is an instrument that helps us carry out our calling…

FOR EXAMPLE: A mechanic may have tools that help him change a set of spark plugs, but if those tools break or get stolen, he gets another set so he can get back to work. Your job may be closely wrapped up in your calling or it may not. Sometimes all your job does is put food on the table, which gives you the freedom to go about your calling in a separate area…

We often use our job or career to measure our success… If we make a lot of money, we consider ourselves successful… But GOD is not concerned with money… (SERIOUSLY, DO YOU THINK HE IS SHORT SUPPLY???)…NO WAY!!!…What He is concerned about is with how you’re doing at the task he has given you…

Friends, As you’re playing your part in advancing the kingdom of heaven, you may be financially Rich or Poor…. You may be just getting by in paying your bills, but God will give you EVERYTHING you need to accomplish YOUR CALLING!!!…

                                                       HE IS A FAITHFUL GOD!!!….

Jobs and careers come and go….I have had a few myself!!!… Our calling…Our God-Appointed Mission in Life is this…Ummm, IT: 

STAYS WITH US UNTIL THE MOMENT WE ARE CALLED HOME TO HEAVEN!!!… 

                                                   HMMM, AGAIN YOU MAY ASK,

                                ” HOW CAN WE BE SURE IT’S GOD’S CALLING???”…

Well…Do you open your MAILBOX one day and find a mysterious letter with your calling written on it????… Hmmm…(Maybe…maybe not)

Is God’s calling spoken to you in a booming voice from heaven, telling you exactly what to do????…Hmmm…(Maybe…Maybe not)

 How do you discover it???…Hmmm… How can you be sure of it???…Hmmm…

                     Well…ANYTIME you want to Hear From God… the Mmethod is the same:

*PRAYING…*READING THE BIBLE…*MEDITATING…*TALKING WITH PASTORS AND/OR GODLY FRIENDS/MENTIORS…AND OF COURSE ***PATIENTLY LISTENING TO THAT, OF HIS, STILL SMALL VOICE…

 GOD REVEALS IT TO US GRADUALLY OVER THE YEARS…AS WE USE OUR TALENTS AND GIFTS TO SERVE OTHERS…WE DISCOVER CERTAIN TYPES OF WORKS THAT JUST FEEL RIGHT!!!…

YEP, IT BRINGS US A DEEP SENSE OF FULFILLMENT AND HAPPINESS!!!…IT FEELS GOoD AND NATURAL THAT “WE KNOW” THAT IS WHAT WE WERE MEANT TO DO!!!…

Do Not get me wrong…***Sometimes we can put God’s Calling into words… or it may be as simple as saying,
